Cookie notice

1. What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store, and which the browser sends back on later requests. It is how a site recognises a returning visit. Other mechanisms do much the same job: local storage, session storage, and small tracking images or scripts embedded in a page.

In the United Kingdom, storing information on your device or reading information already stored there is governed by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003. Where that information is also personal data, the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 apply as well.

2. What this site sets

Nothing. This site does not set a single cookie, first-party or third-party.

That is a statement about the code, not an aspiration. Checked against the source of this site:

• there is no use of document.cookie anywhere in the markup or JavaScript
• there is no use of localStorage, sessionStorage or indexedDB
• there is no analytics product, tag manager, advertising pixel, heat-map or

session-recording tool of any kind

• there is no embedded video, map, chat widget, CAPTCHA or social button
• no preference, consent state or visit history is remembered between page loads.

Reloading a page resets everything the site knows about you

The site makes no requests to any third party at all. The two typefaces are served from this domain — see section 4.

You do not have to take our word for any of this. Open your browser's developer tools, look under the storage or application section, and see for yourself.

3. Server logs are not cookies

The web server that serves this site, which we operate ourselves, keeps standard technical logs of requests made to it — the requesting IP address, the time, the page requested and the browser's user-agent string. That is a record kept on the server, not information stored on or read from your device, so it falls outside the rules described in section 1. It is personal data, and our privacy notice explains what happens to it.

4. Web fonts

The two typefaces this site uses are served from this domain. Nothing is fetched from Google Fonts or from any other font service, and no request leaves this site in order to load them.

There is therefore no third-party font request to disclose, and no cookie or device storage arising from one. This matters beyond cookies: a font loaded from a third party would transmit your IP address and request headers to that provider on every page view.

5. Why there is no consent banner

Consent is required before storing information on a visitor's device, or reading information already stored there, unless doing so is strictly necessary to deliver the service the visitor has asked for.

This site does neither. Nothing is written and nothing is read. There is therefore no consent to obtain and no banner to show. The absence of a cookie banner here is the correct outcome, not an omission.

This changes the moment anything is added that stores or reads data on your device — analytics above all, but equally an embedded video, a map, a CAPTCHA or a chat widget. At that point consent has to be collected before the storage happens, with a genuine option to refuse, and this notice has to be rewritten before the change goes live.

6. Controlling cookies in your browser

There is nothing set by this site for you to remove, but your browser controls apply to every site you visit and are worth knowing:

• Chrome — Settings, then Privacy and security, then Third-party cookies and

Delete browsing data

• Safari — Settings, then Privacy, where you can block all cookies and manage

stored website data

• Firefox — Settings, then Privacy & Security, under Cookies and Site Data

and Enhanced Tracking Protection

• Edge — Settings, then Cookies and site permissions

Blocking all cookies will break sign-in and saved preferences on many other sites. It will not affect this one.

7. Changes to this notice

This notice is updated whenever the site's use of cookies or device storage changes, and the date at the top shows when that last happened. Because the current position is "none at all", any change here is a change worth reading.
